Empowering Youth: Inspiring Change & Knowledge at Zebilla Senior High School
On February 23rd, 2023, the Haven of Love Foundation embarked on a transformative mission aimed at igniting positivity among the youth. This meaningful initiative led us to Zebilla Senior High School, where we collaborated with the school’s Guidance counseling department to engage with the WASSCE candidates. Our goal was to equip these young minds with essential knowledge key life issues commonly encountered by today’s youth.
During our discussions, we delved into the profound implications of early marriage, emphasizing its detrimental effects on education and personal growth. We emphasized the significance of nurturing self-esteem, encouraging these individuals to believe in their capabilities and aspirations. Career guidance sessions provided valuable insights into diverse career pathways available to the students, urging them to make informed decisions about their futures.
Another critical session shed light on the challenges and consequences associated with teenage pregnancy, specifically within the context of education. The students received comprehensive sexual education, arming them with crucial knowledge about sexual health and safe practices. Alarming statistics concerning HIV/AIDS in the district served as a stark reminder, emphasizing the importance of abstinence as a preventive measure.
The program encouraged active participation from the students where they had the opportunity to ask questions related to the topics discussed and sanitary pads were gifted out to the girls who actively participated. This small yet impactful gesture aimed to address menstrual hygiene needs, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and uninterrupted focus on their education.
The success of this program was made possible by our exceptional volunteers. Their contribution facilitated a forum where students could connect with mentors, serving as role models and offering ongoing guidance. The students’ eagerness to engage, particularly in discussions regarding reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, contributed significantly to the program’s success.
We firmly believe that by addressing these pivotal topics and fostering an environment of open dialogue, we can contribute to shaping a brighter and well-informed future for these young individuals. Together, through such initiatives, we can inspire positive change and empower the next generation to make informed and responsible choices for their lives.
