EYE SENSITIZATION AND CATARACT MEDIA EDUCATION TALK
At Haven of Foundation, we are deeply committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those we serve. Our focus on social welfare is one of the three key pillars of our mission. By integrating a variety of activities, we aim to address the immediate needs of underserved communities and foster long-term well-being.
A core medium by which we continue to make an impact in our society is through the provision of free medical services. In collaboration with Christian Service International, our foundation conducted a transformative 7-day program focusing on eye health. This initiative targeted selected communities in the Upper East Region, including Binduri and Bawku West Districts, as well as neighbouring areas. The program aimed to raise awareness about eye hygiene and provide essential services related to cataract education.
Representatives of the foundation were chanced to have a talk with several media stations in Ghana including Zebs FM 95.9 MHZ, Dastek FM 90.1, Maxx Empire TV and Maxx FM 96.9. The talk touched on several topics including eye hygiene and the causes, effects, prevention, and management of cataracts. A question-and-answer segment was also integrated with expert opticians and optometrists, allowing community members to learn more about maintaining good eye health. The staff at the stations were also beneficiaries of the free eye screening and distribution of protective and reading glasses.
We also had the opportunity to have an educative talk with about 1,000 senior high school students at the Zebilla Senior High assembly hall. t was an informative discussion where students were able to ask numerous questions about eye health and received accurate answers from the eye specialists serving as resource persons. Additionally, students who actively participated or correctly answered the evaluation questions were rewarded with gifts like shades (spectacles).
Although the limited time available for each talk hindered the opportunity for more in-depth discussions and personalised advice, the program was still very impactful.
At Haven of Love Foundation, through continued partnerships and innovative programs, we aim to continue creating lasting, positive change for those who need it most.
