Another successful outreach has been organized. Some young hearts have been imparted with core values of communal spirit and initiative! Good attitudinal and behavioral changes towards our environment have been inculcated. By this instance of concerted effort, the habit of indiscriminate littering has hopefully been eliminated from the minds of these young ones.
As part of our mission to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 6 respectively for sanitation, health and wellbeing, the Haven of love children’s foundation successfully carried out a sanitation outreach at Lamboya Primary/Junior high school, located in Zebilla (Bawku West District-Upper-East Region).
The exercise was ran with the theme: “I am the steward of my environment Cleanliness is next to Godliness”, is an adage many Ghanaians profess. But the question of it being practised obviously leaves much to be desired . It is against this backdrop and our passion for
spreading awareness on saving the environment, that the foundation organized this outreach to sensitize the pupils about having a positive attitude towards the environment.
The exercise started at 10:00am on Monday 16 th December, 2019, with an opening prayer led by a volunteer among the pupils. The foundation was welcomed and introduced to the pupils by one staff member, named Mr. Joseph. The finance director of the foundation, Mr. Richmond Azampacka Apiiga, then admonished the pupils by explaining to them the benefits derived from living in a clean and tidy environment. Such benefits outlined included the existence and survival of all life created by God, reduced pollution, protection of our unique ecosystems, prevention of the extinction of endangered species and the conservation of natural resources, such as water, land and air.
The finance director of the foundation stressed the fact that thousands of people died in our country as a result of cholera. He buttressed this by making a biblical reference from the book of Genesis; Where God, after creating the physical and social environment, and commanded us to have dominion and take good care of it. “Haven of love children’s foundation is committed to creating a serene and conducive environment for children and that’s why we are here this morning. Our environment needs to be kept tidy and clean at all cost to save life and
property.
That is why you have always been advised by your teachers daily and we are here to add to that!”, said Mr. Apiiga. The foundation donated two dustbins; one each to Lamboya JHS and Primary respectively. The programs director, Mr. Richard Asitanga, who presented the dustbins on behalf of the Foundation to the school, thanked an unnamed Nigeria-based donor who single-handedly sponsored this
outreach.
The finance director of the foundation, also thanked the heads of both Lamboya JHS and Primary, for the permission granted to have this vital exercise in their school. Though the dustbins are only two, pardon us for the little donation, and take good care of them. Also, make proper use of them.
The foundation will be willing to provide more, as soon as we get the funds.” added Mr. Apiiga.
The Assistant head teacher of Lamboya Primary School, Mr. James Ndaago who received the dustbins on behalf of the school, thanked the foundation and the team, for selecting the school in the district for the exercise. He also promised that the dustbins would be well-cared for and used properly. A representative from the district office, Mr. Kidinga, acknowledged the impact the foundation was making in the district. He iterated what had been said by previous speakers. The headmistress, who later joined, appreciated the good work the foundation had done for the school and requested it to extend its good deeds to other areas
of support, such as helping the needy and the disabled in the society.
She revealed that she also had a heart for philanthropy, and had personally donated free uniforms to children whose parents could not afford them. I have 80 pieces of school uniforms to give out, so you can alert me when you have such a program the headmistress told the foundation.
The exercise was climaxed with all present picking litter from every nook and cranny of the school premises and its environs.
