ECO CLUB CREATION

With a global focus on curbing environmental challenges, Haven of Love Foundation is taking the lead in nurturing the next generation of eco-warriors in Upper East Region of Ghana. From the 25th to the 29th of April 2023, the foundation in collaboration with World Vision Ghana and the Ghana Education Service and in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 6 & 13,  set out to inspire young minds  to protect the world around them by embarking on an educational journey with environmental clubs in five primary schools in the Bawku West District.

The program commenced at Zeogo D/A Primary School and continued with visits to St Charles Lwanga, Kansoogo, Timonde, and Atarikom primary schools. The students learned about the eco-clubs’ mission, understanding how they benefit their communities and schools.

The students were also introduced to personal hygiene and the importance of maintaining a clean personal space. Practical demonstrations showcased proper garbage disposal, encouraging clubs to keep their school compounds and surroundings spotless. Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) was also discussed as a sustainable land restoration technique that combats poverty and enhances food production while restoring land fertility.

To allow for continuity of the clubs in the schools, primary 4, 5 and 6 boys and girls were picked out to participate in the program. A male and a female patron in each school were also selected to oversee the activities of the clubs.

School clubs play a pivotal role in shaping the personal and social growth of students and to ensure their effectiveness and impact, school authorities must embrace monitoring and evaluation as a vital and continuous practice. Providing well-drafted activities, visual aids, and necessary equipment will enhance the clubs’ capabilities and foster a spirit of enthusiasm and dedication among club members. By investing in these essential practices, we create an environment where school clubs can flourish and contribute positively to the development of future generations and society as a whole.
