It is said that a healthy nation would make a wealthy nation because productivity is directly proportional to the state of the physiology of the body. The upper east region,  accounts for one of the regions of Ghana that is the food belt of the nation but most of it’s populist careless for the regular check up  mainly because of it’s poor terrain  or the fact that the importance of it is not dawned on them as many visit the hospital mainly when there is a symptom in their bodies. This problem we can say is also seen nation wide even amongst enlightened individuals who should know best.

The medical outreach screening organized by the foundation was the maiden edition done mainly to commemorate the memory of late Paul Aboagye Mensah a very close friend to the C.E.O and Founder of the foundation Samuel Nana Bekai Djirackor Paul was not just a friend but one of the major financier of the organization .this outreach was supported hugely by his elderly brother Frank Aboagye Mensah alongside other donors and partners.

Fast forward to the day of the program, as early as 5:30am  a huge turn out were at the Teshie Primary school compound the venue for the outreach and much to our amazement Considering the event coincided with their market day and also the visit of the Vice president of Ghana to that region.  Thankfully, they were orderly sat under the mango trees courtesy of the organizational skill of a retired electrical engineer Mr Andrews Abugri. The spectacle we saw prompted a turn around in our plans as we had scheduled to start at 8:am but had to commence promptly. Calls were made to convey the team as we started  getting the canopies and the sound system set up, whilst the C. E. O put urgent calls to the doctors to inform them of a change in plans and had to quickly ride a motor to the district capital Zebilla to Pick them up at confidential hotel Zebilla.

This was the first time in the history of the community that such a program of such magnitude is to be held hence every one in the community wondered if truly the doctors would indeed come and if it was truly going to be free of charge as announced on the radio hence they came with their tails between their legs, mind you Teshie community numbering about  4000 individuals comprised mainly of peasant farmers has the kusasi dialect as its major language but then they were many who spoke the twi dialect and English language.

The volunteers were tasked with the responsibility of writing numbers on a cardboard papers and then distributing it to the individuals as they came in their order of arrival. as things settled down and as soft gospel tunes were playing at the background, the anticipation to get examined was what was written on the faces of every one.

The program commenced at about 7:30am as soon as the motor king the doctors were riding on arrived. Mr Robert Awinzore began with the opening prayer and Amazingly the C.E.O who was still on his casual morning wear  had to dash like an Olympiad to the house and quickly put on his trousers  in the process forgeting to insert the belt in it’s belt hole  and hurriedly ran back to the ground to give the welcome address where he welcomed everyone and told them that the love of God which is unconditional and never dependent on man but put within us to change us is the main inspiration for the program he further told them that the world view behind the  inspiration of the program sterned from the Christian faith and that God loves them and wants to encounter them in the person of Jesus .he but further stressed that its by choice to receive this clarion call. In attendance were Muslim’s, traditionalist and Christians this goes to show that with love , irrespective of our dissimillarities  there can be unity in diversity . as we can live and let live respecting the autonomy of others.

The tables were nicely decorated with the medical apparatus as 8 of the doctors took their post with the lead Doctor who doubles up as the patron taking the auxiliary position to over see things. present also from the district hospital were four nurses and a lab technician . some tables had the bp apparatus  whilst another had the urine test apparatus and the other the glucose test apparatus and the last was the consulting table with two doctors counseling individuals as to what to do next after the medical check up. the children’s corner also had a doctor with a nurse and volunteers marshalling through but the children were tested mainly for their urine .

The chief followed by the elders, the representative of the district chief executive and then the pastor began the screening exercise before others followed suit. With the soft song playing at the background the atmosphere was densed with the aroma of love and joy as individuals were screened in their hundreds then all of a sudden a woman fell to the ground collapsing. with the timely  intervention of the doctors she was resuscitated and was diagnosed to be at the verge of having stroke. She was immediately  taken to the hospital.

As things continued , the crowd got so huge  that the consulting table was crowed in our bid to serve every one two  doctors were taken from another tables and added to the consultation point with some volunteers quickly put through on how to use the blood pressure and glucose apparatus hence they conducted the test in place of the doctors and did so excellently well.

The Tv3 correspondent for bawku west and that for Ghana news agency were on hand to cover the program and they had an interview with the patron, Chief, C. E. O, the teen mother’s and orphans benefiting from the foundation as well as the children who had benefited from the organization over the years.

The program was finally coming to its climax as what started at 7:30am was still on at 5pm shockingly individuals who had gone to the market were coming for the program and they were met with the selflessness of the doctors who had a bus to board at 6:pm back to Kumasi and Accra as many of them were on duty for on Monday

The Amazing thing is that we had a total turn out of 800 individuals including children and the success of it cannot be under appreciated as it benefited a lot of individuals. This was seen in the  57 cases that had to be referred to the district hospital for immediate attention the following cases were noticed :

  • diabetes mellitus 8,
  • Seizure 2,
  • Benign prostate hyperplasia 4,

  • haemorrhoid 1,
  • Anaemia 2 ,

The practical application of this medical screening is that God has placed men on earth to be stewards but our stewardship comes from how we see our neighbors as treasures every human being is a treasure in Gods sight and as such he is concerned about their health as much as their spiritual States . the love for humanity can also be seen demonstrated by the doctors who left their duty post traveled the long hours and didn’t even have the time to relax as activities upon activities came which is an indication that to impact life genuinely you must be selflessly driven by love which is unconditional we acknowledge the doctors with their names written below

Supererogatory acts tend to live a mark of feeling meaningful anytime we showcase it or if one experiences it or a benefactor and this is largely because its the part of God in man speaking expressly that love is the greatest force in the universe.

Show someone love today,  loving the treasured.
