CATARACT SURGERY TALK

Cataracts are a common eye condition that primarily affects older adults, though they can occur at any age. They develop when the lens of the eye, which is normally clear, becomes cloudy. This cloudiness can lead to blurred vision, difficulty with glare, and sometimes, significant vision loss if left untreated.

The foundation, in collaboration with Christian Service International, All Grace Consult, and the Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP), and with the approval of Ghana Health Service, brought the gift of clear vision to people of all ages through a cataracts surgery camp. The surgeries ran from between January 24th to 30th, 2022.

After an initial eye screening in seven different communities, we identified numerous individuals in need of cataract surgery. Our dedicated team of doctors and volunteers set out to address every case, ensuring no one was left behind.

By the end of the camp,a total number of 193 surgeries had been performed with the following breakdown:

  • Male adults: 76 cases
  • Female adults: 113 cases
  • Female children: 4 cases
  • Male children: 0 cases

The doctors also treated other eye conditions, provided invaluable advice, and offered prescriptions to ensure comprehensive eye health for everyone.

This remarkable initiative not only restored sight but also hope and confidence in our communities. We are very grateful to our hardworking medical team and to our generous partners and supporters who made this venture possible. We look forward to making a positive impact in more towns with your help!
