TREE PLANTING EXERCISE
In the face of escalating global climate challenges, it is evident that instilling the right education in the younger generation is pivotal for fostering positive behavioural and attitudinal changes towards environmental conservation. Recognizing this imperative, our foundation has remained steadfast in its commitment to addressing pressing global issues such as climate change. In line with this mission, we recently conducted another impactful tree planting initiative in collaboration with World Vision Ghana and Department of Parks and Garden in the Bawku West District in selected basic schools within the district.
Our team engaged with students from various schools, including Koubugo Primary, Kukuo Primary, Kamega Primary/JHS, Yelweoko Primary/JHS, Timond Guure Primary, Teshie Primary, and JHS in interactive sessions under the theme “I am the steward of my environment”. During the interactive sessions, children were educated on the significance of trees and vegetation in maintaining ecological balance with emphasis being placed on the crucial role of nurturing and caring for them to ensure their survival and growth into mature plants.
A diverse range of tree species, including cashew, neem, acacia, orange, and canopy trees, were carefully selected and planted across the schools. In total, approximately 130 seedlings were planted, with additional seedlings distributed to teachers and community members to further extend the initiative’s impact beyond the school grounds.
Our initiative directly supported SDG 13 by promoting climate action at the grassroots level and fostering community-wide environmental consciousness. The tree planting exercise aimed to contribute to making the Bawku West District more aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sustainable. The exercise also allowed the students to contribute to making the Bawku West District more aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sustainable.
Moving forward, we are committed to monitoring the progress of the planted trees and supporting schools in implementing effective strategies for their maintenance and care. We believe that by empowering the younger generation with environmental knowledge and practical experiences, we can pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient future. By working hand in hand with local stakeholders and engaging with communities, we can foster a collective sense of responsibility towards preserving our natural heritage for a greener, healthier, and more sustainable world for generations to come.
