To create a brighter future for the youth of Ghana, a remarkable partnership between the Haven of Love Foundation, Ghana Education Service, World Vision Ghana, and Lamisi Akuka was born.

Together, they orchestrated a transformative five-day STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) mentorship program, which held from the 20th to 24th of February 2023, in the Bawku West District, of the Upper East region of Ghana. The initiative sought to empower young minds and cultivate a passion for STEM fields, ultimately steering them towards science and technology-oriented careers.

The program, which took place across different cluster zones in the Bawku West District including; Teshie, Sapeliga, Kobore, Gbantongo, and Tanga, was meticulously designed to cater to students, in Basic 5 to Basic 9. Parents were also invited to participate, providing a platform for them to gain insight into effective parenting techniques. Distinguished speakers were invited to engage with the children and their parents, providing valuable insights into various aspects of life. These interactive sessions covered essential subjects such as career development, sex education, self-esteem, early marriage prevention, HIV/AIDS awareness, and parenting skills.

One of the most impactful elements of the program was the breakaway sessions, where attendees were grouped to receive personalized guidance from mentors. Parents were paired with specific speakers, allowing them to delve deeper into topics relevant to their concerns. Similarly, young boys and girls were divided into smaller groups and connected with mentors who could provide guidance tailored to their specific needs.

Notably, the female mentors who engaged with the girls during these group sessions went above and beyond. They generously shared their contact information, enabling the girls to reach out for advice, counsel, and guidance at any time.

To encourage active participation and reward engagement, special bags containing sanitary pads, were distributed to the girls who had actively participated or answered questions throughout the day. In total, 350 bags were distributed to these deserving young girls. Additionally, motivational gifts were distributed throughout the five-day program, offering participants a tangible representation of the program’s encouragement and support.

Through initiatives like these, we can ensure that Ghana’s youth are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue careers in science and technology, which will make them well-prepared, to navigate the challenges of life with resilience, and determination.

This collaborative effort stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when organizations come together, to invest in the future of their youth. This ensures that the dream of having a prosperous, vibrant and empowered Ghana, is realized.
