CHARIS FUN FAIR
At the end of each year, something magical happens in communities across the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region. It’s a celebration of joy, learning, and empowerment known as the Charis Family Fun Fair. This annual event, organised by the dedicated team at Haven of Love Foundation, aims to enhance social interaction among children and their families while spreading the message of grace and empowerment.
The Charis Family Fun Fair isn’t just any ordinary event. It’s a tradition deeply rooted in the community, bringing together families from all walks of life. Since its inception in 2017, the fair has grown in both size and impact, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved. The journey began in the Teshie community, with 1,500 children eagerly participating in a day filled with activities like eating competitions, dancing contests, sack races, and spelling bees. Over the years, the fair has expanded its reach, touching the lives of thousands in villages like Komaka, Yarigu, Boya, and Saka. Despite facing challenges, including a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Charis Family Fun Fair has persevered, driven by a shared commitment to community building and empowerment.
At the heart of the Charis Family Fun Fair are initiatives aimed at empowering individuals and families. One such initiative is the renewal of health insurance for fifty of community members, ensuring access to essential healthcare services. But the fair isn’t just about physical health—it’s also about nurturing minds and spirits. Educational talks on topics like nutrition, dental health, and parenting provide valuable insights for both children and adults. These sessions, led by experts in their fields, equip attendees with the knowledge and tools they need to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
The tradition of this fun fair is sure to continue for years to come and we look forward to being able to touch more lives via several avenues such as with the renewal of health insurance for members of the community.
