The life of a physically challenged primary 6 Girl living in a deprived community comprising petty farmers who ply their trade in farming just to plant , harvest and store to sustain them and their families for the year could be very frustrating not to mention that the topography is hilly, rocky and dusty here.
Martha Mbugri age 17 lives and crawls daily to school as her hunger for education fuels her to look beyond the pain of her hands and feet scrubbing on the rocks by virtue of this distress even though the passion for knowledge is unending, she ends up being at home for half of the term as sometimes the pains all over her body from crawling long distances deny halts her movements.
When we got a wind of the plight of Martha we did a video with her which touched the hearts of our numerous donors and partners all over the world and by their concerted efforts , we got the tricycle from Tamale to Zebilla in the Bawku west district of the upper east region branded it and got it all set for day of presentation 14th November 2018 the atmosphere was filled with excitement and rejoicing as the notable dignitaries of the Soogo community and its indigenous converged at the Soogo primary school compound .
The Assemblyman of the community Hon. Ndaugo Isaac welcomed everyone to the gathering and also showered appreciation on the foundation for the kind gesture of love shown to the physically challenged girl. The entourage of Haven of love led by the program director Richard Asitanga Anambilla Aduku brought forth the tricycle to present it to the beneficiary.
It was a euphoria of tears and joy as Martha’s parents Mr Mbugre Ayeebo and Mrs Martha Mbalebina who were divorced came together to make the day a memorable one for their daughter .
Soogo community which is comprised of peasant farmers with a sparse population of 3000 individuals came in their numbers to grace these unusual occasion. As the cameras clicked recording the occasion, the names of the partner donors who supported with their various sums by concerted efforts were been acknowledged by Richmond Azampaka apiiga(finance director hold) and Richard Asitanga (programs director H.O.L) the silent but noticeable nibbling of the pupil’s of Soogo primary school could be heard as they anticipated with excitement for Martha to mount the tricycle.
The list of acknowledgement finally came to a halt and the headmistress of Soogo Primary School Mrs Ayendago Grace expressed her profound gratitude to the foundation and the various partner donors and was so excited because Martha could now be punctual and consistent to school. Martha’s Parry were all teary and prayed for all those who made the tricycle presentation possible in every little and large capacity.
The moment of glory finally dawned as Martha mounted the tricycle in tears as she prayed for those who supported after which with her hands engaged the pedal and vigorously started paddling much to the much anticipated roar of the crowd and the pupils who were over 200 in number running after her chanting Martha Martha Martha
It’s so amazing how just a single act of love and care shown can go a long way not just to meet immediate needs but also to reconcile wearing factions together like Martha’s divorced parents who came together in the atmosphere of love and joy to celebrate with their daughter . the unity we crave for from the diversity of in our communities just needs a spark of a good act of love as we saw the coming together in unity of the community to celebrate with Martha.
True love that is selfless is what our world needs to function according to design but this long stems from the agape love God has for humanity where he sees humanity as treasures and a glimpse into this love empowers and tames the heart to treat others with respect, value and honor irrespective of religion, race tribe or nationality.
